Apple Inc. AAPL 0.23% has officially confirmed its latest step in taking on rival Google Inc GOOG 0.39% GOOGL 0.46%. On Wednesday, Apple announced that it will soon be deploying a fleet of camera-equipped cars to collect data in Ireland, England and the U.S.
The cars will be acquiring images that will be included in future updates to Apple Maps, likely in a form similar to Google Maps’ Street View feature.

Apple’s press release included a loose schedule of the areas its cars will travel and the dates on which it will be collecting data. Apple lists 15 U.S. cities that could see Apple Maps cars from June 15 to June 30, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis and Boston.
