Where did they travel? According to the ITA Office of Travel and Tourism, here are the top ten American travel destinations for international visitors.
10. Boston, Massachusetts
In addition to visiting the beautiful campuses of world-class colleges such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, travelers to Boston can walk the Freedom Trail and see landmarks such as the U.S.S. Constitution, the site of the Boston Massacre and the Bunker Hill Monument.
9. Chicago, Illinois
The 15 miles of public beaches, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), once the world’s tallest building, are among the attractions for international visitors.
8. Washington, D.C.
International visitors flock to the nation’s capital to see the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Washington Monument and countless other memorials and monuments that pay tribute to the nation’s rich history.
7. Honolulu, Hawaii
It’s easy to see why international visitors would escape their troubles by taking a trip to an island paradise. Hawaii visitors can take in the breathtaking mountainous scenery or simply relax and enjoy the weather on the beautiful beaches.
6. Las Vegas, Nevada
The Las Vegas Strip is home to the largest casino mega-resort collection in the U.S. In addition to gambling, Vegas is known for its world-class entertainment, food and nightlife.
5. Miami, Florida
Known for its sunny beaches, relaxed lifestyle and international flavor, Miami is a major draw for tourists worldwide.
4. Orlando, Florida
Orlando, much like Las Vegas, is centered around its tourism industry. It’s no wonder international travelers choose to visit Orlando, home to the Walt Disney World Resort, the Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld.
3. Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles is the center of the worldwide movie and television business, and international visitors can find the names of their favorite movie starts on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The architectural marvel of the Golden Gate Bridge, the infamous Alcatraz Island and the unique, hilly setting of the city are three major draws to the San Francisco area.

For many international travelers, New York City is the epitome of America. The Statue of Liberty has greeted millions of European immigrants over the decades, and Times Square, the Empire State Building and Fifth Avenue are also major New York draws that make the city the top U.S. travel destination for international visitors.
