The latest data from Ticker Tags provides some insightful info on trends in social media and virtual reality. Ticker Tags monitors social media sites to identify trends by searching for words or phrases that are found together in social media content, such as tweets.
In the past 18 months, social media mentions of Yahoo! Inc. YHOO 5.31%’s social networking and microblogging site Tumblr are down a whopping 50 percent. In that same time, mentions of privately owned rival site Reddit are up 75 percent.
When it comes to virtual reality, social media mentions of Alphabet Inc GOOGL 2.58% GOOG 2.61%’s Google Cardboard has exploded 800 percent in the past year and a half. Google Cardboard is a $20 device that converts Android phones into virtual reality headsets.
