The six degrees of separation theory is a theory that each person in the world can be connected to every other person in the world in only six steps. The same theory could easily apply to the self-driving car industry. In fact, all the major players in autonomous driving can be connected in much fewer than six steps.
Here’s a look a just some of the many branches of the autonomous driving family tree.
BAYER MOTOREN WERK ADR EACH REPR 0.33333 SHS BMWYY 0.6% (BMW) recently promised it would deliver fully autonomous vehicles by 2021. To do so, the company is partnering withtech companies Intel Corporation INTC 0.05% and Mobileye NV MBLY 0.24%.
General Motors Company GM 0.56% spun off Delphi Automotive PLC DLPH 0.54% back in 1999. This week, Delphi and Mobileye announced a new partnership to develop a self-driving system.
Alphabet Inc GOOG 0.64% GOOGL 0.64% and Ford Motor Company F 0.24% have teamed with ridesharing startup Uber to tackle the regulatory hurdles that self-driving cars may face.
