Samsung Galaxy Social Media Buzz Slumping

The gold standard in smartphones, Apple Inc. AAPL 1.35%, is expected to report its second consecutive quarter of year-over-year iPhone sales declines this week. Despite Apple’s struggles, the latest data from TickerTags indicates Samsung Electronic SSNLF and its Galaxy phones don’t seem to be seizing the opportunity.

TickerTags monitors social media sites to identify trends by searching for words and phrases that appear together in social media content, such as Tweets.

According to the latest numbers, organic social media mentions of Samsung’s Galaxy line are down 32 percent so far in 2016 compared to the same time last year. In addition, organic mentions in Q2 fell 24 percent compared to Q1 and 42 percent compared to Q2 of 2015.

The lack of social chatter about the Galaxy may not end up as bad for the company’s bottom line as it seems, however. Data from Kantar Worldpanel show…
